At The Economics Tuition Place, we believe that while students ought to have the personal responsibility to be interested in learning, the onus is ultimately on the tutors’ to make each and every lesson engaging and interesting. To that end, our tutors endeavour to make all the economics content, as well as the thinking and writing skills that are taught in class relevant to our students. This is achieved by a very deliberate emphasis placed on real world applications.

 

Customised for different schools

Given that JCs have the autonomy to sequence the teaching of the Economics syllabus, different schools have thus far adopted different approaches based on their respective pedagogical beliefs. At The Economics Tuition Place, we have 3 tailor-made programs that cater to the students from different JCs. This is aimed at helping our tuition students learn in a manner that is in line with their schools’ sequencing of the syllabus, thus helping to improve the learning outcome as well as school exam performance.

Useful Notes

We understand that for the learning process to be effective, students need to constantly review what they have learnt. To facilitate this, we have developed a unique set of notes that isn’t simply a summary of ideas but rather a tool for revision that is thorough in its explanation of concepts and ideas. This set of notes is complemented by concise and effective summaries for easy organisation of ideas as well as exam preparation.

 

Emphasis on thinking and writing skills

The A Levels today are very different from 20 years ago. Content mastery alone isn’t enough to get a decent grade, let alone a distinction. The problem that many students face is that even if they had studied the content material very thoroughly, they continue to fare badly for tests and exams, often even failing. The primary reason being that their thinking and/or writing skills are not well developed.

 

Here at The Economics Tuition Place, we have developed a very strong skills program where both thinking skills and writing skills are taught explicitly and built up consistently throughout the year. These skills not only help our students perform better in exams but continue to empower them when they enter university and eventually the workforce.

 

Positive learning environment

Students are often afraid to ask questions in class for fear of appearing incompetent if they asked “stupid questions”. At The Economics Tuition Place, we believe that asking questions is the best way for students to clarify their doubts and deepen their understanding. Our tutors foster a very positive environment when students are constantly encouraged to ask questions, both in class as well as after class. As educators, we don't believe that there are stupid questions.​​

 

Holistic development

At The Economics Tuition Place, our tutors firmly believe in the holistic education of a person. Apart from our effective teaching of the content material and skills, we believe in developing both the overall intellectual aspect of the student as well the affective aspect. Character development, leadership and values are an integral part of our lessons. Academically, we do not believe in teaching economics in isolation. We adopt a more holistic approach of teaching economics as part of humanities, in which our students are exposed to philosophy, history and political science during lessons. This will help them gain a significantly more meaningful appreciation of Economics as a subject, as well as its relevance to the real world.

 

Qualified and Experienced tutors

 All our economics tutors at The Economics Tuition Place are fully qualified. They are all Economics graduates from reputable local and overseas universities. They are all trained at the National Institute of Education specifically for the teaching of economics. And they all have many years of actual full-time teaching experience at various JCs, teaching H1, H2 and H3 economics, preparing many batches of students for the A level exams. Our tutors are highly specialised and they teach economics exclusively, giving them the time to focus on developing their materials as well as their pedagogical approach over the years. Each of our tutors has in excess of 10000 hours of classroom experience, teaching economics at the A level. 

 

Great track record

About 80% of our students in the last few cohorts have attained an A grade in the A level economics exam, and over 90% getting at least a B grade. No tuition centre and/or respectable educator will guarantee a distinction, since getting an A grade is also very much dependent on their students’ effort (not their ability). The tutors at, however firmly believe in helping every student reach their goal. We didn't get to these statistics simply by being good at what we do; we got here by striving every single year to teach better, and to help our students do better. We will continue in this direction.

The Economics Tuition Place is part Learners’ Lodge – The 'A' Level Specialist, where tuition classes for a wide range of other A level subjects are available. Our branches are located at five convenient locations  in Singapore. In addition, with more than 20 JC1 classes and more than 40 JC2 classes, students can easily find a suitable class.
